Shipping and Receiving Manager - Detroit Lakes, MN

Job Title: Shipping & Receiving Manager
Department: Materials
Reports To: Operations Manager
Location: Detroit Lakes, MN
Pay Range: $24 to $30/hr.

Position Summary
The primary role is to supervise the activities of the Shipping & Receiving Team as well as building maintenance. The role engages in unloading, storing, and distributing materials in yard of industrial plant from suppliers or production shops to ensure smooth and consistent operation that supports Company goals and initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directs work in loading and unloading materials and in use and care of machines and equipment.
  • Manage the shortage sheets for each house and inform Plant Manager and Customer Service when the items are received.
  • Ensures that items that are delivered are the correct items and quantity stated on the shipping receipt and inputs the items on the corresponding PO, inputs that information into Accounting Software and brings POs into office for accounting.
  • Supervises and participates in the safe and orderly storage of materials.
  • Supervises and participates in the distribution of materials from authorized requisitions to production and to builders.
  • Coordinate shipments in and out of yard and inspect for specified quantity and quality.
  • Initiates the filing of claims for damaged materials or lost shipments.
  • Maintains the inventory of materials on hand and reports replenishment needs to the Purchasing Department.
  • Responsible for the sale of new and second lumber material for all employees.
  • Supervises and prepares the necessary paperwork in the return of materials from builders and from production for Accounting Team purposes.
  • Orders and secures competitive bids or negotiates to obtain the most favorable price for specific designated items of material from suppliers.
  • Keeps informed of required lead times for deliveries to permit timely purchasing of materials in optimum quantities.
  • Dispatches Company truck to various vendors to pick up and deliver material.
  • Maintains good housekeeping practices to facilitate efficient operation and employee safety and morale.
  • Enforces compliance with all safety rules and regulations, directs others in safe and effective use of tools and takes prompt corrective action concerning any potential safety hazards.

Quality Control Manager - Detroit Lakes, MN

Job Title: Quality Control Manager

Position Summary
The primary role is to ensure that all house models meet code requirements of all jurisdictions in which sales are made and to otherwise assist in the coordination of production operations to facilitate the timely completion of the desired quality and quantity of products.

  • Work with the drafting department to submit house plans to the state.
  • Submits house plans to the state and local regulatory agencies to assure compliance with all code requirements in all jurisdictions in which sales are made.
  • Research and specify material and construction standards which fulfill code requirements, and to maintain product quality and customer acceptance.
  • Plans, supervises and directs the inspection of finished products for conformity with codes and Company quality standards and customer specifications. Provide recommendations to Plant Manager on appropriate action to correct specific non-conformances noted and to prevent further occurrences and collaborates to create SOP.
  • Devises and recommends remedy to product quality and production problems to maintain enhance the overall quality of Company products at the most favorable cost.
  • Assist in resolving legal problems relating to customer service.
  • Orders IBC Certification Labels, State Labels, and/or initiates electrical/plumbing certificates for all houses required.
  • Checks all materials used in construction for conformity with specified grades or specifications and assures that all materials are used or installed in the proper manner.
  • Checks rough opening measurements and floor plan layouts to assure conformity with plans and specifications.
  • Assures that electrical wiring, heating, and plumbing systems and construction methods used conform with applicable building codes.
  • Documents and maintain all required records concerning inspection work activities and submits to appropriate individuals.
  • Determines shipped loose items and transfers items to shipping lists and makes sure the items are of acceptable quality and included for transport.
  • Makes final inspection of complete houses noting items missing, shortages or deficiencies and alerts appropriate personnel.
  • Analyze shortage and time lost data. Provides training recommendations to Plant Manager and presents findings to production teams to show specific occurrence or patterns.
  • Affixes appropriate IBC Certification labels and electrical/plumbing certificates to completed houses attesting that product meets or exceeds all applicable building code requirements. 
  • Works with transportation on a weekly basis to make sure appropriate paperwork is in each house for setting up crews and that all deficiencies and shortages are completed prior to the house leaving the yard.
  • Assembles warranty packets to accompany each house invoice. Maintains updated inventory of product warranty information for this purpose.
  • Acquires and maintains a good working knowledge of all applicable building codes to facilitate the timely and efficient performance of inspection work activities.
  • Works closely and cooperates effectively with federal, state, or local officials to facilitate and expedite their inspection work on Company homes.
  • Assists production in directing hourly personnel
  • Maintains a favorable working relationship with all employees to promote a cooperative and harmonious working environment.
  • Maintains good housekeeping practices which facilitate efficient operation as well as employee safety and morale.

                        • Ability to read and understand schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, blueprints, floor plans and work orders for projects
                        • Ability to use both manual and power tools such as screw guns and belt sander in a safe and correct manner
                        • Proficient in soldering skills with use of copper pipes
                        • Knowledge of state plumbing codes
                        • Ability to perform physical work overhead for extended periods of time
                        • Ability to use mathematics and measuring devices to calculate length, width, height, depth, etc.

                            Education

                            Position Summary:

                            The Production Trainer plays the lead role in training all new hires and leads process and continuous improvement projects. This role will report to the General Manager.

                            Roles and Responsibilities:

                            • Training and motivation of all new employees.
                            • Manages the onboarding process by training production workers at workstations and in classroom settings.
                            • Performs any additional tasks including leading other training programs such as, safety, quality and continuous improvement as assigned by the production manager or general manager.
                            • Assists Human Resources and Supervisors with selection of new team members.
                            • Participates and contributes to projects to meet department goals and objectives.
                            • Identifies gaps in the new hires skill level to determine the need for additional training and/or performance management.
                            • Train and certify all personnel on safe operation of all equipment, including forklifts and scissor lifts.
                            • Prioritize safety and accident prevention.
                            • Stress to new hires the importance of work attendance and the vital role they fill on the line.
                            • Manage multiple new hired employees at a time.
                            • Familiarize new hires with where to find everything in the facility, including (but not limited to) the breakrooms, bathrooms, human resources, emergency exits, etc. 
                            • Develops new training methods.
                            • Creates and maintains instruction materials- SOP’s and SWI’s
                            • Provides ongoing education to employees on process improvement. 
                            • Develops lesson and workshops to instruct employees on more effective ways to carry out their jobs.
                            • Ensures the quality and consistency of training content. 
                            • Adheres to all company policies and operational procedures.
                            • Promotes understanding of overall company profit and loss though selected projects.
                            • May be cross trained into other departments to ensure job knowledge progression and a balanced work force.
                            • Performs various other job duties as assigned and needed.
                            • 5s auditing and enforcement.
                            • Managing 5s throughout the facility.
                            • Work with the purchasing department on vendor trainings.
                            • Training on basic tools and basic skills.
                            • Manage Floater Program
                            • Work with safety training company on safety trainings and more. 

                            Required and Preferred Qualifications:

                            • 2 + years of training or management experience preferred. 
                            • Yellow belt certification or must be completed within 1 year of hire.
                            • Previous carpentry or manufacturing experience preferred.
                            • Demonstrates ability to influence and teach others.
                            • Must be able to use Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
                            • Ability to take accurate measurements.
                            • Ability to read technical documents and drawings.
                            • Must poses a strong attention to detail in completing work tasks. 
                            • Knowledge of basic tools and carpentry skills.
